Rio Dyer out of Wales squad with hamstring injury as Macs Page called up
Page, 21, hurt his head against the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday 24 October and must clear return-to-play protocols before he can push for a first cap.
Follow-up to Wales Nations Championship squad adds uncapped Dragons pair, leaves out Faletau

Wales have lost one wing to injury and called up another who is carrying a knock of his own. Wales have let Dragons wing Rio Dyer go from their Nations Championship squad because of a hamstring injury, which rules him out of the autumn series. Uncapped Scarlets wing Macs Page has been added to the Wales squad, even though he picked up a head injury at the weekend.
Both players got hurt on the same Saturday, 24 October, and both in the act of going over the line. Dyer was injured as he scored a try in the Dragons' defeat to the Ospreys and had to come off at about half-time. In Cape Town, Page suffered his head injury against the Stormers while trying to score what would have been his second try of the match.
A setback for Dyer
The 26-year-old has 24 caps for Wales. His most recent came against South Africa last autumn, and he was not picked for the Six Nations or the summer squads. He has now been released to do his rehabilitation with the Dragons at Rodney Parade.
"To be selected and then get an injury is tough," said Alex Davies, the Wales kicking coach.
Page waits on protocols
Page's call-up comes with conditions. The Scarlets confirmed on Monday 26 October that he would fly home from South Africa, so he misses this weekend's game against the Bulls while he follows World Rugby's concussion guidelines. He has to get through those return-to-play protocols before he can push for a first cap.
The 21-year-old has been part of a Wales squad before. He toured Japan with Wales in 2025 but did not play. His director of rugby at the Scarlets expects his chance to come.
"I suppose with Macs, it’s a matter of when, not if, he plays for Wales, given the way he’s developing," said Nigel Davies.
Once fit, Page will be one of several options in the back three. He joins his Scarlets team-mates Ellis Mee and Blair Murray, along with Louis Rees-Zammit, Tom Rogers, Josh Adams and Gabriel Hamer-Webb.
What comes next for Wales
Wales open against Japan in Cardiff on Saturday 7 November and then host New Zealand and Australia. At the end of November they play another southern hemisphere side on Nations Championship finals weekend at Twickenham's Allianz Stadium.
The Scarlets had better news about fly-half Sam Costelow, who is back in training after hurting his hamstring against Newcastle on Saturday 17 October.
