Teddy Wilson and Tom Lambert named in Wallabies squad for November tour

The 33-man group gathers in Sydney on Wednesday 28 October before Tests against England, Scotland and Wales and the Nations Championship Finals in London.

Teddy Wilson, the son of a 1999 World Cup winner, has been called up to the Wallabies for the first time. He and loosehead prop Tom Lambert are the only two uncapped players in the 33-man squad picked for Australia's November Nations Championship Tests in the UK.

Wilson is a 23-year-old scrumhalf who used to captain the Australia Under-20s. His father, David Wilson, won 79 Test caps and was in the Australian side that won the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Cardiff. Lambert, the other new face, comes in as a loosehead prop.

Recalls ahead of a four-Test tour

There are still several notable returns. Overseas-based forwards Taniela Tupou and Tom Hooper have been recalled because all four Tests fall inside World Rugby's Regulation Nine window.

Hunter Paisami also returns after serving a suspension for a high tackle in the 42-38 win over South Africa at Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday 27 September. Flyhalf Carter Gordon has been recalled while he recovers from a fractured fibula he suffered in Argentina, and lock Miles Amatosero is back after injury too.

"As coaches, we’ve made some tough selection calls to keep building depth across the board," Kiss said.

The tour follows a difficult October. Australia lost both Tests against New Zealand, going down 50-19 at Eden Park on Saturday 10 October and 43-21 in Sydney on Saturday 17 October, as the results show.

What comes next

The squad gathers in Sydney on Wednesday 28 October and then flies to the UK on a Saturday. More players could be added after Australia A play the USA on Sunday 25 October, Australian time.

The fixtures start with England at Twickenham on Sunday 8 November, followed by Scotland at Murrayfield on Sunday 15 November and Wales in Cardiff on Saturday 21 November. The Nations Championship Finals in London on the last weekend of November close the tour.

"This Tour gives us another valuable opportunity to test new combinations, strengthen our existing connections and push our game forward in all areas," Kiss said.
