Kwagga Smith is free to sign for the Bulls after he and the Shizuoka Blue Revs agreed to end his contract, closing his eight years with the Japanese club.

The Blue Revs announced the departure on Tuesday 20 October 2026.

The Bulls are open about their interest. Coach Johan Ackermann has confirmed the club wants to sign Smith and Malcolm Marx, a fellow Springbok who also plays in Japan.

Smith was picked in the Team of the Season five times, twice in the Top League era and three times after the switch to League One. He was also voted League One Player of the Season.

Smith has 63 caps for South Africa and has won two Rugby World Cups with the Springboks.
