Hugo Reus scored 20 of Bordeaux-Begles' points as they won 25-19 at La Rochelle on Sunday 25 October 2026, and the result lifted them into second place in the Top 14.

The flyhalf kicked six penalties and added the conversion to the game's only Bordeaux try.

La Rochelle hit back through a South African as well. Springbok lock Salmaan Moerat, making his first start for the club, threw the long pass that sent Samoa international Theo McFarland over. Reus kept the scoreboard moving with his fourth penalty, which left Bordeaux 19-7 ahead at halftime.

The home side kept coming after the break. Centre Semi Lagivala drove over for his first try of the season, and replacement back Andy Timo touched down two minutes from the end. With Antoine Hastoy off injured, though, the stand-in kicker pushed the touchline conversion wide, so La Rochelle went home without a defensive bonus point.

The win was all the more useful because of the weekend's other results. On Saturday 24 October, champions Toulouse beat Perpignan 38-33, while Pau, who had started the round in second, lost 41-20 at Toulon.

On the Top 14 log, Bordeaux now have 23 points, five behind Toulouse at the top and one ahead of Pau in third. Ronan O'Gara's La Rochelle are still fourth after seven rounds. For more from France and beyond, see our pro rugby news.
